Types Of Bonds used in Brick Masonary
Masonry is very important in the construction of any building. It is important to take care of masonry joints during masonry work otherwise the strength and Quality of masonry work decreases. Then we will now get detailed information about various Bonds used in masonry work.
1.Stretcher Bond
In this type of bond the bricks are arranged as a stretcher course in all layers
This type of bond is useful for building a partition wall of 1 bricks.
Half bat is used at the beginning of alternating layers to break the continuity of vertical joints.
2.Header Bond
In this type of bond, all the layers are arranged as header courses.
This type of bond is used in curved walls and coating in the plan.
3/4 bat is placed in alternate layers at the corners of the wall to break the continuity of the vertical joints.
3.English Bond
This type of bond is most commonly used in masonry and is considered the strongest bond in masonry.
The features of this bond are as follows
In this type of bond, one layer stretcher and the other layer header are arranged simultaneously.
The headers, alternately in the header course, are supported in the middle just above the lower stretcher.
A wall that is 1,2, 3 inches thick has the same look on the inside and outside.
In a wall thickness of 1 1/2, 2 2/2, 3 1/2, the same layer that looks like a stretcher on the outside looks like a header on the inside or the same layer that looks like a header on the outside looks like a header on the inside. Appears as a stretcher.
The number of joints in the header course is almost double the number of joints in the stretcher course.
Quine closure is not required in the stretcher course.
4.Flemish Bond
In this type of bond the stretcher and header are arranged alternately in each layer.
It looks better than an English bond.
Characteristics of Flemish Bond
Stretchers and headers are arranged alternately in each layer.
Each header is tucked in exactly between the top of the bottom stretcher.
The Queen Closer is placed after the Queen Header in alternate layers.
There are two types of Flemish bonds.
a) Double Flemish bond
b) Single Flemish bond
5.Garden Wall Bond
This type of bond is used in the construction of garden walls and compound walls.
There are two types of garden wall bonds.
A)Garden Wall English Bond
In which a header course is placed after 3 or 5 stretcher courses.
B)Garden Wall Flemish Bond
In this type of bond a header is placed after three or five stretchers in each layer.
6.Racking Bond
In a rocking bond, the bricks are arranged diagonally instead of parallel to the wall (0 °) perpendicularly (90). Headers are arranged between the walls of greater thickness. Such walls are weak in the vertical direction so the bricks are arranged diagonally in the middle part to strengthen them.
Racking Bonds are three types.
A)Herring Bone Bond
In this type of bond, bricks are arranged at a 45 angle on either side of the centerline of the wall.
Such bonds are used for walls of more than four bricks thickness.
Such bonds are also used in making decorative panels in flooring.
B) Diagonal Bond
In this type of bond the bricks are arranged in a diagonal direction.
Such bonds are useful for walls of two or four bricks thickness.
The required triangular bricks are prepared by cutting the bricks at the ends. Such bonds are used in the footing of high walls.
C) Zig-Zag Bond
In such bonds the bricks are arranged in a zig-zag manner. Such bonds are used in flooring.
